“[W]hen we think about doing these sort of things we also tend to ask our players on the forums what they think and feedback on our design questions,” ArenaNet explained. “One of the biggest pieces of feedback was… people wanted to make sure smaller guilds were not left out and not outpaced too much.”

The developers are introducing several new features for organized groups from new items to craft to PvP guild teams. Furthermore, it does not matter whether players are part of an established guild or a smaller one. With “Heart of Thorns,” ArenaNet redid the progression with balance in mind.

“Guild Wars 2” updates were designed so that players will have various ways to progress. There will not be any huge guilds getting whatever they want, smaller guilds can also keep pace better once they are able to gather the resources they need Players can also go around different guilds and help out.

“We listened to feedback from our alpha testers and so we initially thought about making you choose a main guild but ultimately that’s not really going to best serve our players,” the developer said. “So now you can actually contribute to any guild without having to be a member of it. You can go run missions with those guilds, you can donate resources to those guilds and there are certain rewards you can get by doing that, even when [you’re] not a member.”

Fans were outraged over the pricing of “Guild of Wars: Heart of Thorns” expansion claiming that there was no cheap upgrade option for existing owners of the base game. ArenaNet announced a new refund policy and rewards for veterans of the game.

“For our long-standing fans and loyal players, we would like to say thank you and show our appreciation,” ArenaNet wrote on the game’s blog. “For all players who registered the core Guild Wars 2 game prior to January 23, 2015 and who upgrade their account by pre-purchasing and registering any ‘Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns’ edition before its launch, we will add one additional character slot to your ‘Guild Wars 2’ account.”
